Our Dental Sedation Options Calm Children

Because every child has unique concerns, Dentistry for Children offers three fantastic options for dental sedation. One or more of these should work for your child to eliminate their anxiety — we’ll help you decide which one is best.

Inhaled sedation, better known as “laughing gas,” consists of a gas mixed with oxygen that your child will breathe in through a small mask. Almost immediately, your little one will begin to feel a mild euphoria, and all nervousness will melt away. The effects will wear off just as quickly.

Another option is oral conscious sedation that is administered in a safe liquid they will drink before we begin treatment. Your child will stay awake the entire time so we can communicate with them, but they will likely have only a vague memory of the visit.

IV sedation is our strongest form of sedation. Your child will instantly feel the effects, and all anxiety will disappear. We are thoroughly trained in administering dental sedation, including for children with special needs. We will carefully monitor your child during their visit, ensuring optimal comfort.

If your child is old enough to drive, it’s important you know that a trusted friend or family member will need to pick them up if they undergo oral conscious sedation or IV sedation.

If there is any chance your child will experience discomfort, we can also provide anesthetic to prevent any pain.

Our Amenities & Talented Team Also Help With Dental Anxiety

Did you know that as many as one in five Americans suffer from dental anxiety for one reason or another? Don’t assume your child is just being stubborn if they resist visiting the dentist. It takes only one bad experience to make someone uncomfortable with dental appointments.

Besides sedation, we also offer some of the comforts of home to help put your child at ease. These include:

  • Video games in our waiting rooms
  • Fun playhouses to keep your child occupied
  • TVs mounted above each chair for watching movies during their exam or procedure

Plus, our caring team understands children and will work hard to relieve their dental anxiety. We will listen intently to your child’s particular concerns so that we can provide them with the most pleasant experience we can.
